Example - Battle

You will receive one report for each battle that you fight; there are three different battle types, Field Battles, Sea Battles and Sieges.

As this is a brief overview we have given an overview of the Field Battle report only, however you can view all the files in more detail as PDF downloads.

The Field Battle model is quite sophisticated in that units from the Reserve, Scouting, Special, Baggage Train, Left and Right can be involved in battle in the Centre for example.

The battle report is structured as follows:

•Introduction to the battle and details of the battle

  Initial Phase Scouting / Special
Phase 1 Left Flank / Right Flank / Centre
Phase 2 Left Flank / Right Flank / Centre
Phase 3 Left Flank / Right Flank / Centre
End Phase Left Flank / Right Flank / Centre
Follow Up Phase Left Flank / Right Flank / Centre
  Epilogue

Phase
• Overview of phase

° By Position - Special, or Scouting, or Left or Right or Centre.
Show stats for the units per round.
Give and explanation of what happened in the phase, for Skirmish / Archery & Melee / Disengagement
° Give Totals - results for the Phase by position

Individual unit stats separated by army and detailed as follows, per round, per position, per phase:

ID Unit Name Unit Types Number of Troops Melee Skirmish Casualty Reduction Line Position Kill Rate Final Casualty Reduction Losses Remaining End Melee End Skirmish Round

Then a total for the phase per position as per the following:

Army Name Unit Name Troops Losses Troops Left
Army 1
  Unit Name 500 75 425
Total Army 1   500 75 425

Army 2
  Unit Name 1,000 351 649
Total Army 2   1,000 351 649

A spreadsheet will be supplied if requested to enable the player to really delve into the numbers.

A couple of points to bear in mind, I use the a Kill Rate which is applied to the units ability, this takes into account a number of factors and is abstract. Secondly, after each round a reduction in the hit points is applied, less the vitality. Thirdly, as the battle is GM’d, just placing everything in the centre might be a big mistake. Finally if you lose a field battle, the follow-up stage becomes critically important.

Example - Turn

The player writes their turn out in simple English, I will take the order from this and process them.

For example movement, you can link units together in an army, in which case you say the following:

“Move the Central Army to sector 21-35 from sector 18-35 through sectors 19-35 and 20-35.”

Or add a unit to an army, “Unit 47 1st Heavy Foot is sent to join the Central Army, they are allocated to the Centre in the 1st Line.”

If players want to fill in turn sheets then there are some available in the private zone download section, but in essence the players structure the turn as they want to and I process it. But please try to break out your orders into numbered items.
